Ubisoft on Possible Sale: "We Are Always Evaluating Options"
Lina Skorych
Last week, Bloomberg reported that the Chinese giant Tencent and the Guillemot family are considering the possibility of acquiring Ubisoft. One of the options proposed is to take the company private. In comments to VGC, a Ubisoft representative seemingly confirmed a negative stance on the sale.
The press service also reported that, at present, Ubisoft's management is focused on implementing its current strategy, which prioritizes the creation of open-world adventures and live-service games.
We would like to remind you that the value of Ubisoft's shares dropped to an 11-year low last month. This decline has made the studio vulnerable, attracting interest from companies like Tencent, who are considering potential acquisitions. Currently, talks between the Chinese parties and Ubisoft's founding Guillemot family are in the early stages.
This was enough, however, to give Ubisoft a significant boost, with the company's shares jumping nearly 40% following the news, a sharp contrast to last week's figures.
