The Coin Puzzle in Silent Hill 2 involves finding and arranging three different coins — "Serpent," "Woman," and "Man" — relying on poetic clues. Each game coin has its own values and unique traits, adding to the complexity of the puzzle.
Why is the Coin Cabinet needed?
The Coin Cabinet can be found in Wood Side Apartments, behind the registration wall in the room with a save point. Inside the cabinet, you’ll find a letter with a poem that hints at what you need to solve this mystery.
Man Coin
The first coin you will find is in Wood Side Apartments. To retrieve it, use the courtyard key (found near the green car) and proceed to the safe. Enter the pin code "13-7-11" to unlock the safe and take the Man Coin.
Serpent Coin
This coin is located in the pool, which you will access after meeting Eddie. The coin is placed in a cradle or cart in the center of the pool — it is impossible to miss, as it is strongly tied to the game's plot development.
You will see this coin stuck in a trash bin at the beginning of the game. After meeting Eddie, locate Room 312, where the laundry room is. Take the juice pack and throw it down the trash chute — the coin will fall into the inner courtyard, which will help you open it faster than with a key.
How to Solve the Coin Puzzle?
Once all three coins are collected, you can start solving the puzzle. Start by reading the poem:
«Three bright holes in five, the girl sits under the tree first.
The wind blows behind the girl, and a beautiful flower grows alone.
Here comes a man, smooth and refined, his eyes shining in the moonlight.»
Coin Arrangement:
- Slot 1 — Man Coin (face-up)
- Slot 2 — Empty
- Slot 3 — Woman Coin (face-up)
- Slot 4 — Empty
- Slot 5 — Flower Coin (reverse of the Serpent Coin)
After this, a new poem will appear:
«The man approaches, his blade open, his face disappears behind shining steel.
The girl runs from the man to the flower, away from the tree.»
New Coin Placement:
- Slot 1 — Empty
- Slot 2 — Sword Coin (reverse of the Man Coin)
- Slot 3 — Empty
- Slot 4 — Woman Coin
- Slot 5 — Flower Coin
Then, you will be given a final poem:
«Where the flower grew, now there is poison; where the girl was, there is only stone.
Over her grace stands the man, his blade unmet by the venomous serpent.»
Final Coin Placement:

- Slot 4 — Grave Coin (reverse of the Woman Coin)
