Food in the game Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is truly essential; it plays just as important a role as weapons. Unlike other games, it plays no less of a role than weapons or equipment. However, unlike other MMORPGs, the game features food spoilage, just like in real life. If the protagonist consumes spoiled food, they will suffer from food poisoning. To avoid accidentally eating bad food, you need to monitor the freshness indicator, which you can find in the inventory.

The heart icon indicates food freshness. If the number is above 55, you won’t get poisoned, but if it drops below 40, like in the photo (Bread), you will.

Foods with the longest shelf life

These foods, just like in real life, hardly spoil. Here is a list of such products:

  • Honey
  • Baked goods
  • Smoked and dried meat

Other foods will spoil quickly, so they must be processed correctly to prevent them from going bad.

How to slow down food spoilage

There are several ways to specially prepare food depending on what product you want to preserve and extend its shelf life:

Fruits, vegetables, and spices can be dried in special locations marked on the map. After drying, fruits and vegetables will lose weight but will spoil at a much slower rate.

Meat, cheese, or even vegetables can be smoked in villages and towns, extending their edibility.

Other foods can be cooked over a fire in camps or near houses. These locations contain special equipment for cooking food.

Now you can store food without worrying about spoilage and set out on your journeys with peace of mind.
