You may know that the new installment of the Hollow Knight series received the highest possible score on OpenCritic , scoring 100 out of 100 according to 6 professional reviews. Players have been waiting for the release since 2017, when only the first part came out, which became a cult classic. The hype at launch was so high that online stores “crashed” due to the influx of players, joking that the hardest boss of the game is actually buying it. What is the game about?
Here’s the gist: as a deadly hunter you set out on adventures across a kingdom ruled by song and silk. You were suddenly taken into this unfamiliar world, so be prepared to fight powerful enemies and uncover mysteries as you climb higher and closer to the top of the kingdom.
This is truly an epic sequel, the game features a lot of new content: new lands and a storyline during which you will have to uncover the mysteries of the world and your past.
The game impresses with its dynamics. If in the first part the developers drew inspiration from the Dark Souls series, which was reflected in the measured pace, fragmentary storytelling, and “dark aesthetics,” in Silksong you can clearly see the evolution of the idea, similar to what happened with Miyazaki’s games. If the first part was Dark Souls, then the new game clearly follows the ideas of Sekiro. Now the game requires quick reactions and full concentration, it has a high entry threshold, so a new player will literally have to learn how to play it.
And this change cannot be called “degradation” compared to its predecessor. It is a completely different project, both in terms of inspiration and gameplay experience.
