Steam key is a code consisting of numbers and letters that allows you to activate a game you have purchased or received for free. The key must be activated on the Steam platform, which will grant you a licensed game in your library. The code can only be used once. There are three types of keys:

  • Standard key: Comes with the game after purchasing it on Steam. The key activates after the game's release, but it can be used at any time.
  • Instant activation key: This is a key for a game that is in beta testing and is not yet available in the Steam library. Most often, these are given to streamers or a small circle of developers' friends.
  • Developer key: Used in very rare cases and may be required by game developers if they are not affiliated with the Steamworks partner group.

What to do if the key does not activate?

First, you need to check if you entered the key correctly. If you typed the key manually instead of copying it, the chance of an error is high. For example, in free Steam accounts, there are often letters that can be easily confused, such as O and 0.

If the key is entered correctly, you will see a message saying "Game activated." If the key is incorrect or already activated, you will receive an appropriate error message.
